Global Weather News for curious Earth-Dwellers

April 2025 : Katy Perry participated in a spectacular Space Flight
The pop star was one of six ladies that made a trip to space organized by the company Blue Origin of US billionaire Jeff Bezos. Among the other team members were the CBS journalist Gayle King and Lauren Sanchez, the fiancée of Mister Bezos.
Kate Perry is not only known as an international pop artist, but as well as a person that worries a lot about the climate. In 2015, she was a UNICEF goodwill ambassador that « called for action on climate change » to better protect children against severe weather events:
« The worst part about this is that some of the youngest and most vulnerable citizens of our world are bearing the most unfair burden of climate change. » (UNICEF goodwill ambassador Katy Perry in 2015)
Ten years later, during her rocket-excursion into the cosmos, Miss Perry did not forget the vulnerable children neither. She sang cheerfully :
« I hear babies cry, I watch them grow, They’ll learn much more than I’ll never know. And I think to myself. What a wonderful world. » (Space tourist Katy Perry in 2025)
The atmosphere on board of the spacecraft was very joyful. Miss Perry entertained the crew not only by singing « What a wonderful world ». After the 10-minute long space excursion she kissed the ground – a great scene for TV stations around the globe.
On social media many people regretted that they are too poor to afford such a space tourism trip. Indeed, a ticket with Blue Origin costs more than 150 000 USD. No problem for Katy Perry ; Forbes estimated her net worth at 340 million USD in 2023.
What about CO2 ? Many newspapers did calculate the CO2 emissions that Katy Perry allegedly produced.
But : Concerning the potential air pollution of this trip there are conflicting infos.
According to Blue Origin there were no carbon emissions, but only water vapor.
However, the BBC quotes a scientist that says that water vapour is a greenhouse gas too (according to Professor Eloise Marais from the University College in London).
